Jiayi (“Shao”) Shao, MHC-LP

SHE/HER

My approach to therapy is eclectic, combining various modalities such as Internal Family Systems, spirituality, indigenous healing, Jungian psychoanalysis, and DBT coping skills. As a trauma-informed and gender-affirming specialist, I also incorporate Zen Buddhism and somatic work to provide a unique and creative touch to our sessions.

As a cisgender woman, person of color, queer and international person, I recognize my intersectional identities and am devoted to helping marginalized and underrepresented communities with my cultural humility and unique perspective. Drawing from my multicultural background and embracing the way of Tao, I believe in the healing power of navigating life's continuous flow with grace and fluidity.

I received my MA in Mental Health Counseling from Columbia University and my BA in Applied Psychology from NYU. I have extensive experience promoting anti-oppression and personal resilience, particularly within the LGBTQ and BIPOC communities.

I specialize in providing support to individuals who are struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, grief and loss, feeling stuck in their personal or professional lives, and LGBTQIA+ related concerns.

Together, we'll collaborate to open the channel between your mind and feeling world and prepare your whole being for the process of growth and rediscovery.

We can explore meditation, imagery, metaphors, and dream interpretation to help you find freedom, ease, and deeper meaning in your life.

I strive to make our sessions a safe and welcoming environment that invites you to ask deeper questions and connect with your most authentic self.

Creating a warm, empathic, and reflective space is at the core of my practice.
